The effects of teleworking

Currently, and according to a study by the Committee of the Regions (CoR), it seems that 30% of employees are working from home, a practice that is increasingly widespread and has allowed many companies to continue moving forward, but it is necessary to talk about the effects of teleworking, since new problems of anxiety and distress are being detected in people who are currently doing it.

The new anxiety problems that are being detected are the result of the lack of direct interaction with the rest of the coworkers, and the loneliness of working from home and not having all the information about what is happening, only the digital morsel that can arrive, and this leads to misunderstandings, and anxiety due to the lack of direct communication with other people, and the possibility of being able to solve small day-to-day conflicts much more easily.

Another effect of teleworking is the fact of giving everything too much thought, of thinking that unimportant things matter, or of feeling excluded or out of the game due to any minimal misunderstanding that may exist, this can even lead to what is called “organizational paranoia”, something that is completely irrational, and that could probably be solved with a conversation that could give security and reaffirm that person.

And another worrying fact about teleworking is the image that is shown, both your own and that of your surroundings, since it is like letting people from work into your privacy, and this can cause feelings of insecurity and vulnerability, in some cases even inequality of conditions. As an example of this point, it seems that on Twitter there is an account called “Room Rater”, which has 374,000 followers and which rates the backgrounds that appear in video calls!
