Problems finding staff

Currently, more than half of Spanish companies are having problems finding staff, whether high or low-skilled, and SMEs are the most affected by this staff deficit, according to data from a study presented jointly by Randstat and the Spanish Confederation of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (Cepyme).

From this same study, and also according to data from the National Institute of Statistics, it is extracted that currently the number of vacancies not covered in the Spanish market is estimated at 109,000 jobs.

At the same time, the Spanish labor market presents major structural problems, which are reflected in a great paradox, since on the one hand there are 3.1 million unemployed people, and on the other many companies cannot continue their activity because they cannot find qualified personnel.

This topic was discussed during a conference dedicated to “the shortage of talent in SMEs”, and among the various interventions that were made, we can highlight that of Gerardo Cuerva, president of Cepyme, who said that this situation does not affect a single sector, therefore he showed his concern about the lack of qualified workers in the Spanish labor market.

In the speech of Jesús Echevarría, president of Randstat, he pointed out that the talent deficit is a critical issue in our country, and that it will be an increasingly big problem; specifically he pointed out three causes, which are demography, the low employment rate, and also the lack of training, especially for people who are unemployed.

Finally, he stated that companies must become attractive to workers, through greater work-life balance and flexibility, committing to corporate social responsibility, and promoting the qualification and requalification of their workers.
