Is the new Law that requires recording working hours sufficient to be able to reconcile work and family life?

When it has been approximately two months since the implementation of the new Law that requires the recording of the working hours of all company workers, we wonder if this measure is sufficient to be able to reconcile work and family life for all workers in a satisfactory way, since this is a very recurring approach in today's society.

In an article by Laura Pinyol, published in ara.cat, we can find a long reflection on this topic, in which she highlights above all that conciliation policies will not be effective if they are not also accompanied by co-responsibility policies, bearing in mind that conciliation is a task for women as well as men.

She also raises the role of the company in all this, highlighting that some differ precisely in applying measures that help to have a better quality family life, such as work flexibility, teleworking, etc., which are in line with what is currently being defined as “family friendly” companies, offering, for example, working hours from 9 to 17 hours with flexibility in both entry and exit.

This article also highlights the fact that almost all domestic and childcare responsibility still falls mainly on women, since it seems that these tasks are distributed in 2.33 hours on average among men and 5.08 among women; The author reflects on the fact that if we do not also move towards equality in this area, we will never be able to achieve complete reconciliation, no matter how many other measures we apply.

Among many other interesting concepts, we finally highlight the fact that if we want to be on par with other European countries that are more advanced in these matters, we must work together, within our own families, and also in companies, to apply measures that allow us to fully achieve this full reconciliation between personal and professional life, to be able to give the best of ourselves in each one.
