The Consumers and Users Organization (OCU) lists the three options that currently exist to reconcile work and family life, which can be requesting leave, a reduction in working hours, or an adaptation of the schedule, but it must be taken into account that in none of these cases is the full salary received.

Regarding leave, it can be to take care of minors or relatives, and in this case the company cannot refuse it, it can be up to three years, and the job must be secured during the first year, with the possibility of returning at any time.

You can also request voluntary leave for reasons such as accompanying your partner to live in another city, etc., the duration could be between 4 months and 5 years, with a minimum seniority of one year, and in this case the company could deny it. There would also be the case of mandatory leave that is given when you are chosen for another position in a public institution.

Another possibility to reconcile is the reduction of the working day, which can be requested when it is necessary to take care of children under 12 years of age or dependents; a reduction of between one eighth and one half of the working day can be requested, and in this situation the company cannot dismiss the person who has requested it; It is also a preferential right for victims of gender violence and terrorism.

Finally, there would be a third possibility which is the so-called “working day à la carte”, which means adapting the schedules without any reduction in working hours, what is done is to make the working hours more flexible according to the needs of the person who requests it, to be able to apply it it is necessary to reach a written agreement with the company.
